I can't help being gothically inclined. It's just the way it is. Therefore it can only be considered normal, that I've been drawn towards the works of Neil Gaiman like the Sandman series of comics and other marvelous stuff. Also I've been reading his blog regularly. He has the nice habit of posting often and insightful and linking to blogs from friends and people he met.
So in the course of the last year or so I've started reading some of those blogs as well. Now all of these are not what you could call gothic people (the exception being Malena, the friend of Neils personal assistant). But for some inexplicable reason all of them have shown gothic tendencies recently. Let the following chronology show that I'm not being paranoid
At first there was the New York author Maureen Johnson happily discussing the relative merits of vampires and zombies as dating options. She opted for vampires. Good choice, Maureen!
Then there was Fabulous Lorrain (Neils PA) celebrating Helloween. OK, this is a good reason but weird suspicions were starting to crawl up my spine.
Next the west coast multi-talent who helped Neil get through Comic-Con 2007 revealed herself to double as a fearsome zombie in a low budget horror movie. Evidence of something sinister was piling up.
The last of these strange and terrible events was the transformation of the mild-mannered, feathered-friends-loving Birdchick into a queen of darkness and temptress of the unsuspecting embracing the horrific powers of the dark arts.
What is going on? I mean I applaud the fact that more and more people are are coming over to my side to dwell in the flickering light of the macabre. But why is it happing all at once? Is there some evil power let loose in the world? Are the Old Ones stirring in their eternal slumber? Any suggestions, further evidence or explanations are welcome!
